For a peek into trends for the Prom season ahead, social occasion buyers attending VOW Bridal & Formal market in March were asked about trends from their Prom 2023 season, and what styles they’re buying for next year.

Amid an already-bustling consumer prom season, and ahead of Atlanta’s hallmark World of Prom market in August, attendees Jordan Rice of Pure Couture Prom in Dayton, OH and Brittney Redden-Poynor, owner of House of Britt in Columbia, TN, were asked what’s in store, and what consumers can look forward to seeing on racks in 2024.

After a busy prom season this past spring, what trends did you see selling? What are you looking to buy for Prom 2024 in August?

Rice: “Some of the top trends for our store were laser sequins, ballgowns and corsets. We are looking forward to buying some fun floral prints as well as more textured ball gowns, fun ruffles and cut-outs.”

Redden-Poynor: “Our customers gravitated towards corset type tops and loved the beaded look. We also sold more fitted/sheath style gowns compared to any other fit. For the upcoming prom season, we always look to bring in new and upcoming trends. Anything out-of-the-box, bold and tasteful is game for the August market!”

Are there specific colors or details you’re more interested in for your customers?

Rice: “Hot pink and black are always top sellers for us. Lilac and pastels did really well for us in 2023.”

Redden-Poyner: “Black, blue, pink and nude/champagne have proven time and time again in our demographic of customers, those are the go-to colors, and I will for sure see to it we use this as a great tool when choosing next season’s collections.”

What is the benefit in buyers sourcing prom in Atlanta?

Rice: “Being able to see the quality of the dresses in person is a huge plus. Atlanta has all of our vendors in one place, and we also love networking with other stores and vendors.”

Redden-Poyner: “Shopping in-person alongside educated professionals in the industry is a key step in helping my business be successful for the next season. We love the variety Atlanta has, and the fact that I can shop for everything I need at the same market (boutique, bridal & prom) without having to make repetitive trips is very helpful for both me and my business.”

In the first week of August, Atlanta hosts its season-break market featuring prom, bridal, mother of the bride, quinceanera, men’s formalwear, accessories, shoes and more; a second market takes place mid-month in Las Vegas, as well. For more information, visit Atlanta-Apparel.com/VOW.
