Judging from House of Wu’s presence at last season’s Markets, and the changes in approaches to its marketing materials and presentations (some of which has been showcased in VOWS), the multi-category bridal and social occasion apparel company appears to be going through a refresh extending beyond a branding update to include a reimagining of the company’s business direction.
Spearheaded by Tiffany Wu, daughter of founder Wen Wu, the effort coincides with and is the result of Wu successfully buying back the company he founded 36 years ago in mid-2025.
VOWS asked Tiffany and Wen about their plans and goals now that the company is fully under their control.
VOWS: Congratulations on re-acquiring the company you founded so many years ago. What can we expect of House of Wu through this rebirth?
Wen: We are going back to our roots after a decade under different ownership. Now that we’re fully family-owned once again, it was natural for Tiffany to join and help chart what’s next. She brings a fresh perspective, has grown up in the business, and understands our customers' needs.
Tiffany: After the buyback, it felt wrong not to come back. I’m bringing a decade of experience from other industries and translating that across the family business. Prior to this I was in law and real estate, and I’m finding the overlaps everyday.
WEN: With her leading creative direction and brand building, I am able to focus on improvements to enhance our product development, sales, and operations. It’s been nice to have Tiffany as a sounding board and it’s great to be back as a family.
VOWS: How does this impact and/or reflect the legacy of House of Wu?
Tiffany: You’re seeing us build in real time where we left off. After over 30 years in business and a large part of that under someone else’s vision, this shift represents thoughtfulness behind where we want to go as a brand. Respecting our history while evolving to ensure it carries on is the legacy.
Wen: It has been an amazing 36 years in business, and now being a new grandfather to two little girls, legacy is even more important to me. I have newfound inspiration to keep going.
VOWS: Can you provide specifics as to how accounts and prospects will benefit and/or be supported?
Wen: Yes… Even better margin-optimized designs, tailored customer service, constant improvements in fit, materials, and construction, and a relationship-first philosophy that acknowledges the challenges stores are facing.
I’ll never forget the stores that tell me how I’ve helped them stay in business during hard times. This is the point of what we do.
VOWS: Do you see this change of direction as responsive to the market... or leading it... or?
Tiffany: This isn’t market driven. It’s what we think is right for the company, our stores, and the people who have been with us since the beginning. We’ve trusted others with leadership direction for the last decade, so now it’s a new chapter on our own terms.
VOWS: House of Wu has been in this process for about a year... what has been the reaction?
Wen: I’m very happy with our trajectory and our retailers seem to share the same outlook. We’ve had only positive feedback on our product development, marketing strategy, and retailer support. Above all, our stores tell us that the margins we now offer is the best kept secret in the business.
Tiffany: Having been on the inside for six months now, I can see the work that’s been put in to optimizing every part of the production chain to get those margins for our stores. That’s not something every designer prioritizes but he’s been very clear about our focus.
Wen: That’s been my focus from the beginning and it’s still our guidepost. I’m so appreciative of the retailers who have been with us through it all and understand how much work we put into each season. I invite everyone else to join and grow with us as we build the next phase even better.
